How your industry can benefit from bees

  • Bring a sustainable amenity to your property that you can feel good about. Whether it’s attracting tenants or earning LEED points, beehives can help CRE professionals meet their goals.

  • If your residents are life-long learners, they will love our educational programming about bees. We offer hands-on workshops where residents can get fully suited up and learn about honey bee behavior, biology, and management. For the less outdoorsy types, we have highly engaging indoor classes too!

  • Help create a generation that cares deeply about protecting pollinators. Our team has extensive experience creating lessons for students of all ages—from kindergarten to college.

  • Blow your visitors away with your sustainability efforts. With custom-branded honey jars, community workshops, and tours for your team, our Host-a-Hive service can set you apart in the hospitality space.

Corporate Beekeeping FAQs

Common questions from our partners.

Everything you need to know about hosting a hive at your property.

Is it safe to have honey bees on a commercial property?+

Yes — we work with an exceptionally docile species of honey bee, and our placement standards are designed with employees, residents, and guests in mind. We never install hives next to high-traffic areas, building entrances, HVAC intakes, or play structures. During installation we walk your team through simple etiquette around the hive, and our beekeepers handle every visit in full protective gear so there's no expectation of staff involvement (unless they want to be involved — many do!).

Are you insured?+

Yes. Buddha Bee Apiary carries general liability insurance, and we're happy to provide a Certificate of Insurance naming your property as additional insured. Just let us know during onboarding and we'll coordinate with our carrier.

How does this support our sustainability or ESG goals?+

Hosting a managed apiary is one of the most tangible, visible biodiversity initiatives a property can take on. Honey bees support local pollination across a 3-mile radius, which means your hive is actively contributing to the surrounding ecosystem — backyard gardens, community farms, native plants, and urban green space. We can also provide documentation for LEED, WELL, and Fitwel applications, and we'll work with your sustainability team on reporting language for ESG disclosures.

What does the service include?+

Everything. We provide the bees, the equipment, and a dedicated beekeeper who manages your hive year-round — roughly twice a month during the active season. That includes health inspections, pest and disease management, seasonal feeding, swarm prevention, and harvesting. At the end of each season we deliver raw honey extracted and bottled from your hive. You don't need to lift a finger.

Can we use the honey for client gifts or employee perks?+

Absolutely — and most of our corporate hosts do. We offer custom-labeled honey jars with your branding, which make memorable gifts for tenants, clients, employees, or event attendees. It's a thoughtful, locally sourced touchpoint that's hard to forget.

Do you offer programming for employees, residents, or students?+

Yes! Educational programming is one of our favorite parts of corporate partnerships. We run hands-on hive tours, suited-up workshops, lunch-and-learns, and indoor classroom sessions tailored to your audience — whether that's tenants at a commercial property, residents at a retirement community, or students from kindergarten through college. Just tell us your goals and we'll build the experience around them.

How much space do we need?+

Surprisingly little. A single hive needs about a 5×5 foot footprint with a clear flight path. Rooftops, courtyards, edges of green space, and unused corners of a property all work well. We'll do a free property assessment to recommend the best location based on sun, wind, water access, and the flow of foot traffic.

What about local rules or property approvals?+

Most municipalities in North Carolina are bee-friendly, but it's always smart to confirm with your property management, HOA, or building ownership before getting started. If anyone has questions, we're happy to jump on a call or send over documentation about our practices, insurance, and management approach. We've helped a lot of partners get internal sign-off — we know the kinds of questions that come up.

How do we get started?+

Reach out to schedule a property assessment. It's free, there's no obligation, and we'll walk through your goals, suggest hive placement, and put together a proposal that fits your space and budget. From there, install can happen as early as the next swarm season.
