Is it safe to rent a beehive?
When searching for bees for rent, it’s important to work with a team that has experience working on properties where non-beekeepers are present. At Buddha Bee, have been installing and maintaining rental beehives at homes, businesses, and schools since 2019. Safety is always top of mind for us. We only work with docile species of honeybees. Prior to installing a colony at your property, we have already worked with them at our farm to ensure they are gentle. Anytime we open the hive at your property, we request that anyone who wishes to observe maintain a distance of at least 10 feet unless they are wearing protective clothing. These measures make stings unlikely.

Is there anything I need to do to keep my bees healthy?
We take care of all the tricky hive management. There’s nothing you need to do inside the hive. That said if you’d like to above and beyond to support pollinators we can provide a list of recommended native plants to introduce to your property. We also recommend avoiding the use of pesticides as these can be highly toxic to honeybees and other pollinators.

How much space do I need if I want to rent a beehive?
Ideally, a hive should have at least 5 to 10 feet of space in front of its entrance. Think of this as a “runway” where bees can fly in and out without obstructions. The back of the hive should have about 3 to 5 feet of space for the beekeeper to work comfortably.

Is there a rent-to-buy option?
Yes, we do offer the option to adopt your beehive after 12 months for an additional $195. You’ll keep the bees, frames, and boxes. If you need help, we can be available on a consulting basis.
